The Spanish Researchers in Australia-Pacific (SRAP) – New Zealand delegation proudly sponsored the 23rd Latin America & Spain Film Festival (LASFF), hosted at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) .
The LASFF is a celebration of the rich and diverse cultures, languages, and creative voices of Latin America and Spain. Each year, the festival showcases a carefully curated selection of films that explore themes of identity, resilience, and community, offering audiences across New Zealand a unique window into the social and artistic life of Spanish, speaking countries.
The Auckland edition of the festival was organised by SRAP–NZ members Gloria Vázquez and Elba Ramírez, whose dedication and coordination were key to the event’s success. Their efforts brought together members of the local Spanish-speaking community, researchers, students, and film enthusiasts for a week of cultural exchange and lively discussion.
As a supporter of this event, SRAP reinforced its mission to promote scientific, academic, and cultural collaboration between Spain, the Pacific region and New Zealand.
Dr Marta Ribó, representative of SRAP–New Zealand highlighted the importance of initiatives that connect science and culture:
“Supporting the Latin America & Spain Film Festival is a way to celebrate our shared heritage and strengthen ties between the Spanish-speaking and wider Aotearoa New Zealand communities.”
The event drew a diverse audience of students, academics, and local residents, who enjoyed several films followed by informal discussions. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the vibrancy of the Latin American and Spanish communities in Aotearoa New Zealand.
SRAP extends its warm thanks to Gloria Vázquez and Elba Ramírez for their outstanding organisation, and to all who contributed to making the festival a memorable success.
