The Spanish Researchers in Australia-Pacific (SRAP-IEAP) is pleased to present the 12th Australia–Spain Research Forum, an annual multidisciplinary event that brings together researchers, academics, industry professionals, policymakers, cultural organisations and members of the wider community to explore issues of shared interest to Australia and Spain.
This year’s forum, “Environment & Sustainability”, will focus on one of the defining challenges of our time: how we can protect our natural environment and build a more sustainable and resilient future for generations to come.
From climate change and biodiversity loss to sustainable resource use, pollution, ecosystem health and the transition towards more sustainable societies, environmental challenges are increasingly interconnected and require collaboration across disciplines, sectors and borders. Australia and Spain, despite their different geographical and environmental contexts, face many common challenges and have valuable knowledge, research and experiences to share.
The 12th SRAP Research Forum will bring together experts from a range of fields to explore these challenges, identify opportunities for positive change and showcase innovative approaches to environmental sustainability. Through a series of presentations and discussion panels, speakers will share their perspectives on how research, innovation, collaboration and knowledge exchange can contribute to a more sustainable future and support progress towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
As SRAP’s principal networking event, the Australia–Spain Research Forum also provides a unique opportunity to strengthen connections between Australian and Spanish universities, research institutions, industry, government, professional organisations and the broader community.

Registration is free and open to all. We encourage participants to join us in person at the University of Sydney for a day of engaging discussions, knowledge exchange and valuable networking opportunities.

This years Forum artwork entitled Journey, by Deslyn March a proud Bundjalung woman hailing from Fingal and Tweed Heads in Northern New South Wales. This painting is about a community travelling across Country and coming together. The lines and shapes show the paths people take and how they are connected to one another. The artwork also shows the importance of bush medicines found on the land. These plants are used for healing and represent knowledge passed down through generations. Overall, it highlights connection between people, the land and shared cultural traditions.
