Interview to Marián Vidal-Fernández in SBS radio in Spanish

Today on SBS Spanish radio, we had the opportunity to listen (interview and link in Spanish) to our colleague Marián Vidal-Fernández, who is a Professor of Education Economics at the University of Sydney. The title of the interview was “It’s a consumer product”: Australian education still marked by social and gender gaps”.

During the interview, the topic of the NAPLAN exam was addressed, which evaluates students’ skills.

A study has revealed that the impact of COVID on academic performance was not as significant as initially feared. However, concerns were raised about the persistent social gap that exists between girls and boys, as well as among students from different backgrounds.

Marián Vidal-Fernández emphasized the need to invest more resources and increase educational personnel as key measures to close this gap.
