The “Science @Heart 2024” event, held at the Western Plains Cultural Centre in Dubbo on August 17th for Australia National Science Week, was a resounding success, engaging audiences of all ages in a fun and interactive exploration of science. The event featured a variety of talks and displays with shark teeth. From justice, to economics, frogs, and climate change, there were topics and scientists inspiring the local community in Dubbo.
One of the highlights was the school competition that saw the participation of nearly 200 students from the Dubbo area. The competition encouraged primary school students to create artworks that reflected their understanding of science or illustrated the connection between science and the arts. The students’ creations were showcased in the auditorium, drawing admiration from families and visitors. The school with the highest participation rate was awarded a voucher for educational materials, adding a layer of friendly competition to the event.
With over 75 registrations for the event, many more attended the interactive talks, demonstrating strong community interest and engagement. The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the event’s success in making science accessible and enjoyable.
