Research Bites WA

SRAP members in Western Australia (WA) gathered in Perth for a Research Bites, marking the return of this SRAP initiative in WA after some time.

The event was organised by Dr Ignacio González-Álvarez, current SRAP state representative for Western Australia, and took place at one of the buildings of CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation), Australia’s national science agency, located near Curtin University campus.

The meeting brought together Dr Víctor Calo, Dr Carlos Uriarte, Mr Sin Vila, and Dr Ignacio González-Álvarez in a relaxed setting, where each participant had the opportunity to introduce their work and research interests. The presentations reflected the diversity of expertise within the SRAP community, covering topics ranging from mathematical approaches to solving equations applied to oil drilling problems, to underwater technology challenges related to biofouling growth on surfaces and global issues surrounding critical elements.

The conversations did not stop when the presentations ended. In true Spanish spirit, the group continued chatting over breakfast, because as any Spanish gathering shows, good discussions often carry on around food.   It was a great opportunity to exchange ideas, share experiences, and strengthen connections within the SRAP community in Western Australia.

SRAP warmly thanks Ignacio González-Álvarez for organising this gathering and all participants for sharing their work and helping bring Research Bites back to Western Australia.
