SRAP is pleased to highlight the participation of SRAP member Prof. Adriana Vergés in Science Meets Parliament 2026, one of Australia’s key events connecting the STEM sector with policymakers.
Prof. Vergés, marine ecologist and Director of the UNSW Centre for Marine Science & Innovation, joined Dr Robert Cooley, Senior Gamay Ranger and Saltwater man, and Bryce Liddell from the Gamay Rangers, for a panel discussion on truth-telling, cultural capability, and collaborative approaches to restoring marine habitats.
Drawing on their work together in Gamay/Botany Bay, the panel explored how acknowledging historical and ongoing injustices can help build ethical research partnerships and support Indigenous-led marine restoration. The discussion also highlighted the importance of elevating Indigenous knowledge within science and environmental decision-making.
Reflecting on the event, Prof. Vergés shared how valuable it was to discuss ways to bring more science into politics, while also showcasing the collaborative work being done to restore marine ecosystems.
