Announcement of the 3rd Australia-Spain Research Forum: Air


Dear Members, We are pleased to invite you to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Spanish Researchers in Australia-Pacific (SRAP) to be held on Friday 3th November 2017 at 17:30 at the Australian Hearing Hub, Macquarie University. We will email you our Annual Report very soon. This Annual Report summarises all activities undertaken by the association during this year (including the President’s report for 2017). We will also send a reminder to pay next year’s membership fee ($40/year). Hard copies of these reports will be available at the AGM meeting. The AGM will take place at the end of the 3rd Australia-Spain Research Forum: Air. Please check the program and register to attend the forum https://airforum2017.srap-ieap.org/ This year the forum will take place in two cities: Sydney on the 3rd Nov and Canberra on the 6th Nov. With regard to the AGM and the association in general, we would love to hear from you: any ideas that you have, any activity that you would like the association to get involved or any event that you would like to organise. Feel free to email us your ideas and any items that you want to include in the agenda of the meeting to srap.ieap@gmail.com. In addition, we would love to have you as part of the board. Brain Drain: Urban Myth or Tough Reality?


Prof Montserrat Vilà, research professor at Estación Biológica de Doñana (EBD-CSIC) in Seville (Spain) will give a presentation on the impacts of biological invasions with special emphasis on a global analysis of the ecological effects of alien plants on native species and ecosystems in the introduced range. The talk will also describe how impacts are quantified, as well some ways to conduct risk analysis of invasion in Europe. Biological invasions occur when species are introduced by humans beyond their natural dispersal ranges, establishing and spreading in the region. Some impacts can affect socioeconomic sectors such as forestry, agriculture or public health. From the management and policy perspective it is important to identify which invasive species are causing, or have the potential to cause, major impacts. A panel of experts, will lead an insightful discussion with Prof Vila on the impacts of biological invasions in the Australian context. For more information and to register: http://bit.ly/2uh6EJ7
