The 7th Meeting on Scientific, Technological, and Innovation Diplomacy in Spain, organized by the Network of Associations of Spanish Scientists and Researchers Abroad (RAICEX), took place on December 20th and 21st, 2022, at the headquarters of the Ramón Areces Foundation in Madrid. Our partner, honorary president of SRAP and Ambassador of RAICEX, Dr Joaquín Valderrama, participated in the meeting.
In a context where collaboration between different actors (governmental and non-governmental, public and private) is crucial, RAICEX positions itself as a vehicle to address global challenges such as climate change, pandemics, natural disasters, nuclear proliferation, and cybersecurity, through the use of scientific knowledge and innovative technology.
The event was attended by the Minister of Science and Innovation, Ms. Diana Morant, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation, Mr. José Manuel Albares, of the Spanish Government.
During the two days, various sessions were held addressing topics such as attracting and retaining scientific talent, the role of the Spanish language in science, gender equality in the scientific field, and scientific diplomacy. Furthermore, the importance of the RAICEX network as a crucial link between civil society, science professionals, technology and innovation, and governmental actors was emphasized.
These sessions provided an opportunity to reflect on the role of scientific diplomacy in addressing current challenges and reaffirmed the commitment of the RAICEX network to promote collaboration and knowledge exchange between Spanish scientists and researchers abroad and their counterparts in Spain.
