Around 15 SRAP members came together in Melbourne for the opening night of AuTOYbiography, the first solo exhibition by Spanish researcher, artist and fellow SRAP member Cesar Sánchez Huertas.
Presented at Red Gallery, the exhibition offered members a wonderful opportunity to support Cesar while enjoying an evening where art, science and community came together. Through carefully arranged scenes featuring his childhood toys and references to tarot symbolism, Cesar explores memory, identity and the process of reconnecting with a creative passion that had gradually taken a back seat to his scientific career.
Originally from Spain and now based in Melbourne, Cesar has painted and drawn since childhood. Although he followed a career in science and moved to Australia in 2018 to continue his research, he eventually felt the need to make space for art again. This journey of rediscovery sits at the heart of AuTOYbiography, where curiosity, observation and experimentation connect his scientific and artistic worlds.
The opening night was also a lovely occasion for SRAP Victoria members to catch up, meet new people and celebrate the many talents found within our community. Seeing a fellow researcher share such a personal and creative body of work made the evening particularly special.
SRAP warmly congratulates Cesar on his first solo exhibition and thanks him for sharing this important part of his journey with us. To discover more about Cesar’s work and the story behind AuTOYbiography, visit the exhibition or artist websites.
