About

Luis Toronjo-Urquiza is a Lecturer in Biopharmaceutical Engineering at the University of Adelaide, where he leads the Discipline of Bioprocess Engineering and directs the Master in Biopharmaceutical Engineering program. His research focuses on developing sustainable and innovative processes for pharmaceutical production, including plant-derived anticancer compounds, mRNA purification technologies, and natural radiation-shielding formulations. He has published widely in high-impact journals such as Biotechnology Progress, Antioxidants, and Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, reflecting his contributions at the interface of engineering, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical sciences. With collaborations spanning Australia, Europe, and Asia, he works closely with industry partners to translate laboratory research into clinical and commercial applications. He also plays a key role in student mentoring and international exchange, preparing graduates for careers in advanced biomanufacturing and biotechnology.
