About

I am a PhD student at the University of Auckland, specialising in the reliability of deep neural network classifiers, with a particular focus on confidence calibration and selective classification. My research is part of a Science for Technological Innovation (SfTI) biosecurity project aimed at eradicating New Zealand’s predators and pests by 2050. Within this broader mission, my work contributes to developing AI systems capable of reliably identifying species such as rats, possums, and mustelids using computer vision and neural networks. Beyond my core focus on classifier reliability, I also collaborate on other aspects of the project, including swarm algorithms and the integration of software and hardware systems.

My academic background combines software engineering and mathematics, which provides a strong foundation for my AI work. I hold a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and a Combined Honours degree in Software Engineering and Mathematics from Rey Juan Carlos University, both in Spain.

Overall, my research aims to bridge theory and practice in AI, contributing to robust and trustworthy systems in real-world, high-risk applications.

Disciplines: Computer Science
