I am using complementary genomic and transcriptomic approaches to study the effect of baricitinib in type 1 diabetes. We are conducting a phase 2 randomised double-blind placebo-controlled study to determine if baricitinib can preserve beta cell function in individuals with recent-onset T1D (BANDIT study). In this project, I am studying a type of immune cell, called T cells, in BANDIT trial participants using cutting edge genomic and cellular analysis. I am investigating whether baricitinib induces changes in T cells that may be useful biomarkers of responders to treatment.
