I use complementary genomic and transcriptomic approaches to study the effect of baricitinib in type 1 diabetes. We conducted a phase 2 randomised double-blind placebo-controlled study to determine if baricitinib can preserve beta-cell function in individuals with recent-onset T1D (BANDIT study). I focus on studying a type of immune cell, called T cells, in BANDIT trial participants using cutting-edge genomic and cellular analysis. I investigate whether baricitinib induces changes in T cells that may be useful biomarkers of responders to treatment.
