About
Ignacio is the Principal Geochemist at CSIRO in Australia. He holds a BSc and MSc in stratigraphy and sedimentary basin analysis, and a PhD focused on the mobility of rare earth elements. He has led geological research and mineral exploration projects across six continents, including work in Canada, the USA, Papua New Guinea, Australia, China, India, Spain, Norway, Poland, South Africa, Congo, and Brazil.
At CSIRO, Ignacio oversees a diverse portfolio of multi-disciplinary, data-driven projects across Australia. His research centres on trace element mobility in the Earth’s crust, with a focus on rare earth elements, gold, and other critical minerals, as well as surface processes, mineral systems, and exploration methodologies. He has served as Associate Editor for several international journals, including Ore Geology Reviews, Frontiers in Earth Sciences, and Minerals, and contributes to various non-profit organisations promoting Earth Sciences. He is also an Adjunct Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia
