Celebrating the “Day of Girls in ICT” with Elisa Martínez-Marroquín

SRAP-IEAP member Elisa Martínez-Marroquín is a Professor of Engineering at the University of Canberra.

Elisa holds a degree in Telecommunications Engineering, a Master of Engineering, and PhD in Electronics Engineering.

In 2013, she joined the Faculty of Education, Science, Technology and Mathematics at the University of Canberra, where she is a Professor, currently in the role of Chair of Academic Board.

Yesterday, we celebrated the Day of Girls in ICT (Information and communications technology) and we asked her about her motivations:

“At school, I had a clear preference for maths and physics and overall I enjoyed all #STEM subjects. I was privileged to grow up in a very supportive environment at school and at home, together with my two brothers. I did not fully know what engineering was all about, but the idea of working on innovative projects that could have a real impact on society resonated with me. In addition, I have always enjoyed change and challenges rather than repetitive jobs, and a career in engineering has certainly given me plenty of both. I have particularly enjoyed the research and innovation projects in robotic vision and artificial intelligence, in collaboration with international institutions.”

Thanks Elisa for being such an inspiration for girls!

About Paula Llull Llobera

My research deals with the aesthetic and philosophical theories that define the different art movements since the late 60s, specifically in the field of sculpture and installation art. In this context, I analyse the way artists have tackled the natural environment and in particular the work of three contemporary artists that address environmental issues within the museum institution; the Australian artist Janet Laurence is one of my case studies. Also, I am a regular contributor to “Sculpture” magazine and “re:sculpt” blog.
